Your Website Will Have Improved Search Engine Rankings When You Use Social Media Marketing
April 10, 2009 at 11:36 am

Popular Buzz
Gregory L Burrus asked:

I am sure you have heard the latest buzzwords, social media, social media marketing, word of mouth marketing, buzz marketing and web 2.0. Where did all these terms come from and will you find these terms in the English language dictionary is debatable. However these terms provide a serious benefit in the search engine optimization ranking services and should not be ignored.

Social media websites and networking web sites provide you an easy way to connect with people who share similar interests like you. Some social networking websites group people with common interests, but some websites are “traditional networking sites” and allow you to search for friends based on your interests. So now how do these websites really operate. In websites like MySpace users share music which was what helped rocket MYspace into the well renown place it is today and in Facebook, users create their personal information that they want shared and use pictures, software programs and audio, videos to display or depict their business environment. In websites like Fastpitch, Joe Popular and Adlandpro the users create product and sale pitches and work with each other. Promotiing your website using these new tools is termed social media marketing.

So how can you take advantage of this obviously new but what seems beneficial activity? When you use social media marketing and social networking , you have the opportunity to expose your website to a much larger group of people. When your site becomes popular in a social media site, people talk about your site and the post that becomes popular. Do this is taking advantage of a form of marketing that you may know it as word of mouth. The additional links means that as you grow these natural links from a large number of relevant websites, your rankings improve in the search engine due to increased organic search traffic.

Another advantage is that search engines programs that roam the web are keen on social media and networking websites and typically go after links on these websites. This means if you have your site link on social networking and bookmarking websites, your search engine optimization ranking is better and your website site will be indexed quickly. Getting bookmarked from different users and different social media websites will definitely help your site rank better on search engines.

Like it or not, social media websites have become an integral part of the internet because social marketing is easy to do, search engines love social links and hence your business by default will benefit. So if you are engaged in operating a website, and search engine optimization is important then you must realign your site to exploit the popular social media websites for increased traffic. To take advantage of this new method of building business you need to know what steps to perform? Well explore search engine optimization services. Also explore social media marketing and the difference to social networking websites.

The Importance of Tagging
April 10, 2009 at 5:05 am

Buzz News
Philip Robinson asked:

Tagging documents with keywords, particularly in academia, has been around for generations, and has become mainstream on the internet in the past few years, especially with the introduction of social tagging or bookmarking, with the likes of del.icio.us.

Tags are words which allow classification of information, not just by subject, but far more deeply, and the Internet has allowed a free form of tagging to develop, not using a list of permitted terms, but allowing users to add their own tags. This means that a wide variety of tags may be used to describe one particular idea or even an image, which has both pros and cons.

For instance, you may tag a document with a certain set of keywords, whilst another person sees it entirely differently and uses different tags to describe the information given in the document. This means that the number of keywords relating to that document is higher, and hence the potential audience who will find it is broader.

Allowing users to add their own tags has meant that when you search Flickr for a photo, Youtube for a video, or even Amazon for a book, user-generated tags will be part of the mix in the results you get.

These ’social bookmarks’ make it possible to find items that have been classified by others who may use keywords and terms you are familiar with, but which may not be included in the text of the document, or the image.

The tag ‘humour’ is an example. A joke or a funny photo may not in itself include the word ‘humour’ but it is obvious to all who read or see it that it would fall into the category ‘humour’.

Another example is when tagging is used, as was the case with academic papers, to describe content in a succinct, and therefore easily indexable manner. For instance, this article could include the tags:

Article, internet marketing, tagging, tags, keywords, social bookmarks, organic search

But you might also add:

semantic web, search engine optimisation, folksonomies

None of the latter terms are actually included in the article but all are relevant tags, and would mean that those searching on those particular keywords could then find this article.

Tagging is now used extensively on the internet, and it is worth understanding that tags develop very quickly in response to cultural changes, buzz, news items etc. Finding which tags are generating a buzz means that you can include these tags as keywords on your site and generate more organic search results.

Organic search is now extremely important as a source of traffic to any website, but it works best when you include as many keywords, or tags, as possible in a cohesive manner on your website. This does not mean randomly scattering popular keywords around your site (as used to be the case with terms such as ‘Pamela Anderson’!), but by including the popular terms relevant to your niche in your content.

These tags can be stand alone as part of your page to answer the WIIFM (What’s In It For Me) question your visitors ask as soon as they land on your site, or to categorise your content, or as an integral part of your content.

However you choose to use tags, they are an ever-growing part of the internet, of the way people search, and connect with information, and spending a little time looking at how different sites and users work with tags is a must.

Why Spyware Can Hurt You
April 10, 2009 at 2:20 am

Today Buzz
Buzz Scott asked:

Spyware can cause major problems for home and for business computer users. Steps need to be taken to prevent your computer from being infected by these programs that can steal information from you and use it for their own benefit and to your own detriment.

Spyware can be lurking on any computer at any time. Some programs are particularly evident because they place big restrictions on your computer’s performance and flood your screen with pop-up advertisements. Other programs can be a bit more difficult to discover. As Adware and Spyware publishers get more creative, their programs can be difficult to detect. Multiple programs can be running on any unprotected computer at any given time.

Identity theft is a big problem today. Spyware programs can run in the background on your computer while you complete everyday tasks such as paying your bills online or doing some online shopping. Spyware can record your instant messaging conversations, track every website you visit and look at every keystroke you type (whether you save it or not). Everything on your computer hard drive can be compressed into little files and sent out to someone’s email address and tells all kinds of your personal details. Photographs, e-mails and passwords can all be sent out in real time every time you connect to the Internet.

If your company computer becomes infected, this could cause major problems for your company with respect to trade secrets and other confidential information. Sharing files can spread these programs like wildfire. Many executable shareware programs can launch Adware in the form of an unobtrusive looking toolbar on your computer meant to make your life easier when in reality it’s a cloaked Spyware program.

It’s not always easy to avoid Spyware and prevent it from infecting your system. Through freeware, a download on a program such as Kazaa or Shareaza can easily infect your computer. It could be with something that seems as harmless as a few annoying pop-ups and slowed resources or something quite serious could be going on such as keyloggers tracking your passwords where destruction could be happening online with your credentials being listed as the culprit.

Running a Spyware fighting program can combat this problem if you’re unfortunate enough to already be infected.

If you believe your computer is clean of these types of problems, you should arm yourself now. Fighting offensively against potential attacks is the best strategy to protect yourself and your privacy online.

CRM Software: The New Business Buzz
April 9, 2009 at 6:48 pm

Buzz
Nahshon Wingard asked:

Organizations anchor their operations on a customer-centered philosophy to create a fruitful long-term relationship with their clients. In this fast-paced and fiercely competitive corporate world, Information Technology makes it easier and faster (and even less expensive) to connect businesses with people. One innovation is the CRM software.

What is CRM and and its Software?

CRM, short for customer relations management, is the guiding principle that rules business strategies in courting public patronage and loyalty. It is taking an advance step to anticipate customer needs and gathering information to improve products and services. The CRM software, a new technology, is designed to boost CRM upfront.

Organizations recognize the value of knowing and understanding the different needs of their customers. The knowledge serves as a useful tool in realigning policies to manage that information and translate it to effective measures to obtain positive and sometimes negative feedback to work on. The software serves as a lynchpin to contain all that useful information.

Because CRM is a people-to-people interaction, detractors of the software belittle its touted benefits on CRM. According to them, the personal touch of CRM is diminished. Contrary to this allegation, the software is just a means to enhance CRM, not replace interpersonal customer relations service.

Since customer information frequently and rapidly changes, the software provides a convenient and accurate monitoring tool to keep the organization updated and alerted to shifting trends.

What Can The Software Do?

Organizations have to prioritize what they need to know and the data they need to collect, store, and categorize, and how often they have to get the information. The resulting assessment will direct the organization towards getting the appropriate software, or letting the software merchant facilitate the job.

The software provides benefits like effective data banking of customers’ profiles, identify sales leads, provide directions for forecasting, makes web-based sharing of data easier and convenient, help the business make the right decisions, and formulate sales strategies. The software can be customized according to the different and unique organizational needs.

The software should match the organization’s strategies. An organization should therefore examine the software’s compatibility with their requirements. A big organization will have different purposes and agendas from a small or medium-sized business. Fortunately, the software has different programs to fill these needs.

The SAS and Oracle CRM software ideally suits larger organizations, while smaller corporations will be comfortable with SalesProCRM and SalesForce.com. Big or small, companies are after better customer relations management and provide real-time responses to problems. These will be realized with the help of CRM software solutions. .

Before Using the Software

Management should be ready to face some resistance in the application of CRM software solutions. One is involving the staff who will use the application in the selection of the software, and another is training the key persons to familiarize themselves with the same. These approaches will limit or deter resistance and prepare everybody for the eventual use of the software in their daily work routine.

The software is currently creating a divisive stir in business circles, but it is changing the way businesses are handling their customer relations management for theirs and the customers’ advantage. Hence, it is not strange that CRM software is the hottest buzz in the business world.

Defense! Defense! Five Stocks That Win in Every Market Scenario
April 9, 2009 at 4:49 pm

Buzz 2009
Jim “The Net Fool” asked:

In a shaky stock market environment, there is no better place to turn than the defense contractors. Leading the S&P index by about 20% in 2008 (the 8th straight year of better relative performance), the so-called “big five” have their work cut out for them in 2008 and beyond. It is pretty much a foregone conclusion that defense spending will increase this year.

With high global threat levels, the United States defense budget has historically increased regardless of the presidential party in power. Don’t listen to the fools that tell you a democrat president will cut the defense budget, that is simply not true. The funding put into homeland security as well as our defense budget is set to increase (President Bush recently introduced a $3.1 trillion dollar budget) regardless of the War on Terror’s outcome, and the big five defense firms are set to benefit.

There are pros and cons to each of the main defense contractors, but I want to defend the notion that they are all winners in this environment. Which companies? I am talking about United Technologies, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Raytheon and Northrop-Grumman.

United Technologies (NYSE: UTX)

UTX is the largest of the Defense companies, and offers a favorable mix of risk-reward at this point. A widely expected healthy first quarter could be a huge catalyst for the rest of the year. United Technologies does everything from industrial turbine engines to elevators, and it is this diversity that really makes them the General Electric of defense contractors. The weak dollar actually bolsters a potential earnings beat (+15%) for 2008, despite a rocky economy, because European sales account for about 25% of United Technologies’ total.

Many investors have voiced concern over the recent announcement to acquire Diebold. I believe that speculation since the bid isn’t likely to be hostile and the relative size of the expense is small on UTX’s books. Other potential risks include a weakening in commercial construction markets and a slowing residential construction recovery, but I think that a strong aerospace backlog along with a geographic diversity balances their resume enough to ensure a strong year under even the worst conditions.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE: LMT)

Lockheed Martin is the kind of company that never gives you the value you want, but always performs with off the charts fundamentals and margins. I think a lot of analysts with HOLD ratings on the firm are underestimating LMT’s ability to drive profit out of even the bleakest of market conditions. This company has the most risk behind a 2009 administration changeover, but the threat posed is hyped beyond what will actually happen in my honest opinion.

Truth be told, I’d rather have you in a different defense contractor in the short term, but LMT’s performance is truly remarkable and I still have a BUY on these perennial EPS outperformers. They were up 32.8% during the last 2001 recession, and are poised to outperform the market again in 2008. What’s more, their 10-year annualized return is up at 7.3%. What I am trying to say is, Lockheed Martin is historically one of the top performers in a recession, and this go-round shouldn’t be any different.

General Dynamics (NYSE: GD)

General Dynamics is poised to be the largest holding in the Nittany Lion Fund, LLC., and I am generally stoked about their prospects for the year. GD has a leading market position in the areas essential to the U.S. military and has a strong track record of generating capital under every market condition imaginable.

The new Gulfstream G650 aircraft, from the leading unit of GD Aerospace, has really improved on fuel efficiency and speed (among other things) and I feel like the long-awaited release could really benefit sales. This is pretty much the world to GD, and offers a huge amount of visibility with low risk. Other than this, I continue to recommend General Dynamics because of their “no surprises” business model that continues to perform well, offering beatable 2008 EPS guidance and great long term prospects, that guarantees a safe investment.

Raytheon (NYSE: RTN)

RTN is really a conviction buy in the fact that they have an increasing foreign exposure, above average cash flow and a recession-proof portfolio. A lot of investors have Raytheon as the #1 defense company stock for 2008, and I really can’t argue with them. I do not like the fact that this company is overly tied to the Bush Administration, and would be effected slightly by a reduced US presence in Iraq or a more pro-China President (because of arms supplies to Taiwan). However, you need to consider that the defense budget is relatively stable.

Raytheon is set to benefit from some big contracts in homeland and border security, such as a $5+ billion Saudi middle east border contract and the ability to capitalize on cyber security after acquiring Oakley. Strong foreign orders and redeployment of cash should drive Raytheon into a profitable 2008/2009, and I stand by the hype.

Northrop-Grumman (NYSE: NOC)

All the buzz over Northrop-Grumman has been the contract win over Boeing to supply a new tanker worth a potential $35 billion. Despite Boeing’s dispute, NOC will more than likely come out with the win on this one. Regardless, I feel that the bigger development is Northrop’s “Guardian System,” a missile-jamming “pod” that can be attached to aircraft to prevent them from getting shot down in hostile flight areas. Before this system was released on March 26th, it was widely expected to favor Raytheon and BAE Systems… I think this can be a huge driver for NOC that has really gone unnoticed in the market.

Northrop is a steady performer at an attractive price. With a PEG at 0.88 and a Beta at just 0.38, they seem to be ripe for investment. Not only are the valued well, but they have that low debt that we love (debt/equity is just 0.23). The numbers are good, they are getting contracts nobody thought they would get, and they carry low risk in a poor market environment. NOC is good.

The power behind defense in a down market is the ability to lock in contracts, backed by a rising national defense budget, for the long term. The big five all have their advantages, and I would expect most of them to capitalize regardless of what twists and turns are in store for the rest of the market. Sometimes, the best offense is a good defense!
