Promote tips
Jeremy Fuller asked:

The world is changing and so is marketing as we know it. When marketing your business, website or business opportunity you need to think outside the box. There is so much competition on the internet that some small business owners give up and forget about marketing their business.

When you promote your business you need to look at who you are trying to target. Is it the stay at home mom or someone just surfing the web? You need to do a little research and find out who your target market is…

Once you find out who your target market is then you need to do some research into your competition. See what they offer that you don’t, see how they offer what you don’t, how do they market their product and do they have customer testimonies?

Why do customers prefer other companies over yours. Research the competition in your area of business and find out what your business is lacking.

Now that you know who your marketing audience is and how your competition markets, you can effectively market your business or business opportunity.

Some places you might not have thought about marketing your business is on forums. Forums are a great place to build relationships with your clients or customers.

Here is a list of some places that you can market your business:

Forums - find a forum that you are interested in and create a signature with a link to your website. Article Directory - also like LaunchMyPromo.com (This is an article). TrafficSwarm - this is a great way to build traffic for your website.

12 Search Engine Optimization Tips
April 10, 2009 at 1:39 am

Pagerank tips
Bjorn Brands asked:

Search engines want to feed searchers the best information and so do you.

Make sure you have the most content, feature it in a search engine friendly site, and then start to build your link popularity over time.

SEO does not have to be intimidating or very hard. Sure, there is a lot more that you can learn, but at the heart of it all, it is rather basic.

8 Web Design Pitfalls that Can Ruin Your Rankings

1) Do not get fancy.

Follow this rule. The simpler the better. Your site should have more text than fancy HTML. To make sure your site is search engine friendly; use as much text and basic HTML as possible.

2) Do not use Flash.

Flash is useless for SEO. Don’t waste precious resources on your site for flashy graphics.

3) Do not use image text.

Many sites have beautiful headlines. They create these in Photoshop and upload the images! Doing this instead of using the H1 tag seriously undermines your odds of ranking well.

4) Do not use fancy navigation menus. Remember, text links with rich anchor text are far better than image links so don’t use any buttons for your navigation and especially avoid using drop down menus.

5) Don’t go after too many keywords per page.

If you don’t focus, you are going to dilute your page and as a result it will not get a good ranking for any keyword.

6) Do not over optimize.

If you push the limits and add your keywords everywhere, you will get penalized. Always do what is best for the reader.

7) Do not fall for bad linking practices. Never link to or collect links from bad sites that are just trying or promising to help boost search engine rankings.

8) Don’t fall for the latest fad.

You will often hear of BRAND NEW search engine optimization strategies. Don’t fall for them. Even if they work, they will most likely only work temporarily.

Another important key of search engine optimization is to build your “link popularity.” You have to get other sites to link to you. While this is extensively covered in another tactic, here are a few quick ways to get started.

4 Quick Steps to Start Building Link Popularity

1) Submit your site to Yahoo!: Getting listed in the Yahoo! directory costs $299 per year but it is well worth it since Yahoo! is a huge authority site. It will help boost your PageRank and help with SEO.

2) Submit your site to Dmoz: Go to dmoz.org and submit your site to the appropriate category. Then wait 6 weeks and repeat. Getting into dmoz is hard and may take months of waiting but it is well worth trying.

3) Get into Wikipedia: Wikipedia is the fastest growing online directory. What makes it unique is that it is open source. Anyone can add, edit, and delete content.

It is a wonderful resource and has hundreds of thousands of pages with excellent resources. Every page includes links to “External Resources.” Find relevant pages on Wikipedia, create excellent copy on topic resources and then link to them from Wikipedia.

4) Get links from expert/authority directories in your field: Almost every space has at least a few expert sites that list all of the main resources. Find these sites and try to get listed.

There is one very important thing to keep in mind ‘ SEO is not a quick fix to boost your business.

We have listed the things that you can start doing today to boost the position of your site in search engines.

However search engines work differently. They take months to update their index and rankings! So you must be patient, but the rewards are well worth it.

Successful Website Design and SEO Tips for Beginners
April 9, 2009 at 10:22 pm

Seo tips
Joel Mclaughlin asked:

Successful WebSite Design And SEO Tips For Beginners

This writing is intended for someone that has a basic understanding of website design and maybe some seo knowledge. This will give you tips to improve your website design and website traffic through some easy steps and methodologies. SEO is actually Search Engine Optimization, however I will refer to it in this article as SEO.

So you have a website or you are building one, and you are looking to find out to make it a better appearance wise and you also want to find out how you can get more traffic to your site through seo methods. Great, I am excited to help. I have been working in both of these fields for over 10 years and can hopefully give some great advice.

Lets start with some good standards to stick with when building your website. To start you need to make sure you have a good web site structure or architecture.  I recommend that you create a navigation bar across the top of your page or on a left hand side column that includes all of your main links within your website.  Make sure that within your navigation bar you include good key terms for your web site as links.  For example, if you sell kids clothes on line, don’t just create a link named products. Create a link named Kids Clothes or Shop for Kids Clothes. This will give more relevance to the search engines. All links within your site should be analyzed to see if you can put a key term in it that would be relevant to the search engines.  Text links are better than image links when it comes to SEO.

Additionally, for SEO purposes you want to name all file names of pages within your website to include key terms. Going back to the childrens clothing example, a page named childrens_clothing.html is way better than products.html - since the search engines put brownie points on having key words in the URL (universal resource locator).

Now when designing your web site I recommend choosing a color scheme of 2-3 colors that you want to stick with. This will greatly help the appearance of your page and be more pleasing to the eye.

If you are not familiar with using tables in your website design, it is highly recommended. This is a great way to organize content so that it flows better within your page.  If you are not familiar with this tactic, look in to it.

When building your website it is highly recommended to stick to standard font sizes. You should only use 2-3 different font sizes throughout your website. Usually page content will be one size, header or headline text will usually be larger - and maybe you have sub-header text for sub-headlines.  Another great tip is to use html H1 fonts on each page referencing that particular pages main key words. The search engines really admire the large font and place important seo relevance on it.

I also recommend before building a website go around and look for designs you like. Take ideas from multiple designs and implement your own unique style! It is a great way to save time and still make a unique website.

Lastly when it comes to seo, I recommend you go out to directories and article websites and submit your page. Articles are a great way to grab relevant high quality inbound links to your website without spending too much time optimizing. There are hundreds of article sites out there and you can really capitalize on the quality inbound links. Inbound links to your website (especially one way links where you don’t give a link back) are needed to give you a ranking in the search engines.

Hopefully this article has helped.

April 9, 2009 at 6:55 pm

Keywords
Stig Kristoffersen asked:

Determining the right keywords to attract traffic to your site

Several millions of search queries are conducted on the internet search engines each day People all around the world try to find information about various topics. So what are they really looking for then? What controls their choices of searches? Several of the major search engines provide the user a way to look into the web’s query stream to see what the most popular search keywords or topics. Below we list some of them. We will also cover some of the special web sites that will assist you in making the right keywords. There are still some free sites around that will give the users some hints to what kind of keywords the web users will use at the moment. There are also several semi-professional to expert sites/companies that assist and do research for what keywords would benefit web site owner to have in their content on their web sites to attract traffic.

• Google Trends: Will let you to look into Google’s database of searches, to determine what’s popular or not. You can view the volume of queries over time, by city, regions, and languages and so on. Compare multiple keuwords (up to 4 at a time), as well.

• AOL Hot Searches: Will let you see the top current queries, or even see thosemost popular in the last hour, last day or within particular categories.

• Google Zeitgeist: To make research on what people are looking for at Google and its associated specialty services in a variety of categories. There are versions for various countries, as well.

• Google AdWords Keyword Tool: Enter a term or terms, the use the drop-down box to see the popularity of terms and popularity over time.

• Ask IQ: See top searches at the search engine Ask.

• Dogpile SearchSpy: Choose to see either a filtered or non-filtered sample of top, real-time search terms from this popular meta search service. Sister site MetaCrawler offers a similar MetaCrawler MetaSpy service.

• Lycos 50: Long-standing service showing top searches at Lycos each week.

• MSN Search Insider: Top 200 queries on MSN Search (annoyingly in random order), top “movers” in TV, sports and music, and a “duels” feature pitting top queries in a race against each other.

• Yahoo Buzz Index: Shows you what’s hot and what’s not in terms of search topics at Yahoo.

• dWoz Search Phrase Lists: Great directory of services like those above, for search engines large and small, across the web.

• Yahoo Keyword Selector Tool: Formerly called the Overture Keyword Selector Tool and the Overture Search Term Suggestion Tool before that, this free service is primarily designed to help advertisers who wish to select terms to target with ads on the Yahoo network. But you can use it to see how popular particular terms are.

• Researching Keywords: For Search Engine Watch members, this provides an annotated rundown on key tools useful for search marketers needing to perform search research for their campaigns.

• Search Term Research and Search Behavior: These categories of Search Engine Watch’s Search Topics area compile articles on the subject of how people search from across the web and stretching back to 1997. Available only to Search Engine Watch members.

So, lets look at some of the most used keywords globally in 2007

First out is the keyword iphone.

We see that specific events control peaks in the keyword use, such as in the end of 2006 when Cisco sued Apple over the iPhone., then another major event caused the third peak, which happened in mid 2007 when BusinessWeek make its announcement. Minor jump or stabilizing in use of this word became apparent when Apple slashed the prices of iPhone, and of course the same happened when it was announced that iphone was to be launched in Europe.

Not surprisingly United States makes most use of the keyword followed by some European countries and India. Majority of searches are made in English, although the Russian language follows closely after.

Another keyword reaching up amongst the 10 most used words are badoo. The second most used keyword globally in 2007 does maybe not make any sense in the English language, however for Italian, Spanish and French speaking regions it makes sense. Its rapid increase in traffic from 0 in 2006 and linearly through 2007 must have been caused by something. Looking at the countries this keyword is used most in Italy and Venezuela followed by Spain and Colombia and finally France. So what does this word mean in English? The website www.badoo.com, a photo sharing site for members to put their pictures in may have something to do with the use of this keyword. So looking into these trends it is natural to think that popular websites will govern the popularity of the keywords.

Therefore it is not surprising to see words like badoo, facebook, youtube, and ebuddy since they all refer to very popular websites during 2007.

What we can see clearly is that Youtube and Facebook keywords has relatively much higher usage than words like ebuddy and badoo. And we can also observe that news events control peaks or trend changes in these keywords. This is very interesting seen from a market stand point of view. It tells us that keyword usage is very much controlled by news in media surrounding us daily. That means when launching web sites or starting a new content, the web site owners needs to reflect their content to long lasting trends, but also take into consideration short term fluctuations in use of keywords, governed by news events in that time they are working up viewers for their web site content.

So the most used keywords in 2007 according to Google Zeitgeist are as follows:

1. iphone

2. badoo

3. facebook

4. dailymotion

5. webkinz

6. youtube

7. ebuddy

8. second life

9. hi5

10.club penguin

How come that words like dailymotion and webkinz makes it so high in global ranking? Again this is web sites, becoming increasingly popular on the internet amongst web users.

Dailymotion becomes the second largest videosharing Community to promote Warner Music Video content and is most popular in France and Webkinz are stuffed animals which have their own website, and has most popularity in France for some reason or the other.

The last words on the most popular keywords globally in 2007 are;

11. ebuddy

12. second life

13. hi5

14. club penguin

How do these words fit in the popularity scale?

Lets start with the word ebuddy. eBuddy is an online messenger for MSN, Yahoo, Gtalk, MySpace and AIM (AOL). Whether you’re at home, school, work or traveling; with eBuddy enable you to chat online everywhere anytime. eBuddy is available as a web based and mobile version. eBuddy provides instant messaging on every computer, it even works when you are behind a firewall and it’s free.

Then hi5 keyword; a website ala facebook, where you can find friends in your hometown or other parts of the world. You can show off your photos and listen to music you like. You can even watch and share cool videos and build your own page and express what’s important to you. This keyword is by far the most popular of the four ones we listed up last here.

The users could live a virtual life on second life web site, and made this keyword's popularity grow in 2007 as well.

So what it boils down to is, that in order to choose the right keywords, you need to do lots of market research about trends in website usage, and news events just happened or happening at the time you want your content launched.

There is never one specific solution to what keywords you should use. Just looking at the trend in keyword usage in first quarter of 2008 will tell you how dynamic this choice of keyword is.

Let us look at what is the status for these words in January 2008.

All terms have a stable flat trend through all January this year, and Youtube has a dramatically larger search volume than ebuddy, second life and club penguin.

When it comes to the words iphone, ebuddy, dailymotion, badoo and webkinz, the same trend comes through, stable and flat in volume although dailymotions shows some smaller peaks, but does not have any major news event connected to these. However apple launches the iPod Touch as well as Webkinz announces their latest kid's models outfits in this period. At the same time we see that the traffic volume is far lower than the keyword Youtube has. So the keyword Youtube has become a stronger keyword in search volume.

What are the factors that affect search engine rankings

Thorough analysis of trends and events in the local, regional and global markets.

Why your competitors are getting top rankings

They spend time continously to evaluate the market and look into trends that are happening right now. A need for extensive market research in a dynamic way.

How to target the right keywords

Do your homework when it comes to market analysis and behaviour patterns, even look into demography in your market and determine what their main interests are. Just like supermarkets have done over the last 10 years to detect your behaviour to make you buy the products and place the products in the right location. The same you have to do, just look at your web site as the local, regional or global supermarket, and satisfy your clients, and be loyal to them.

What are the seemingly invisible factors the search engines use to rank your site

What are inbound links and how many do you need to beat the top sites

How to optimize your pages without the risk of being penalized

Finding the most suitable links for your site

These latter topics i will cover in my next article, and you will be able to read in more detail on my web site www.lulu.com/stig.

How to Boost Your Website Traffic and Get More Sales (guaranteed) - Part 3
April 9, 2009 at 1:08 pm

Traffic
Li Weng asked:

Getting Free Traffic

Although buying traffic and borrowing traffic are effective traffic strategies, there is one major flaw in both of these methods - You are not creating traffic that you OWN!

In both cases, you’re asking for permission to use someone else’s traffic for a short-term period. This means that once you stop paying that advertising fee or when the joint venture agreement ends, you will no longer get any traffic from these sources. This is all because the traffic is not truly YOURS.

Bottom line is… “You do not want to RELY on someone else for your own success!”

This is where creating your own streams of free targeted traffic becomes so important.

Only through creating lasting streams of free targeted traffic can you enjoy increasing long-term sales. Remember, free targeted traffic is strictly your traffic. It’s traffic that you own and control. You don’t need to share this traffic with anyone, and you don’t have to pay someone else to get it. This traffic is yours and yours alone. The best part of this traffic is that it’s FREE!

Yes, you will have to put in a little effort and time to build it and maintain it, just like with any type of business. However, once you set a solid foundation for it and get the snowball rolling, it will gain momentum on its own and get you even more traffic and sales for years to come. This is the very beauty of free targeted traffic.

The rule of running an online business is:

“The more successful you become the less work you do.”

So the big question is …

How do you get FREE TARGETED TRAFFIC?

There are literally thousands of ways to get free targeted traffic. However, one of the fastest and the most effect ways to get free targeted traffic is leveraging the immense power of Web2.0. Web2.0 simply refers to how information is transferred, shared and found online through interactive virtual platforms, web communities and global networking.

Sites like Myspace, Facebook, Twitter, Digg are attracting hundreds of millions of users online every day. Endless information is rapidly distributed and shared on these social sites every second. These social arenas have very much become an integral part in the daily lives of hundreds of millions of people across the entire globe. Think about the traffic and revenue potential you will have by harnessing the raw power of social traffic.

Have you ever noticed that when you visit the homepages of world class marketers and organisations, you will often see prominent links to their social networking profiles on Myspace, Facebook, Twitter and other social sites? This is no coincidence. In fact, every top level marketer in the world pays much attention to building and maintaining their online social profiles, because they have seen and experienced the power of Web2.0 at first-hand.

Dell has made $1 million in revenue in the last 18 months from Twitter alone! And it’s a completely free platform. Social traffic is simply too large a revenue source to ignore as part of your traffic strategy.

In the first part of this article we said that getting targeted traffic is making your offers easy for your potential buyers to find. These red hot social media sites allow you to do just that. When you fully grasp of the true capacity of Web 2.0, not only will you boost your website traffic and sales fast, you can also build customer relationships and retain buyers that last a lifetime. The benefits of social sites do not just stop at traffic; it also provides you with a powerful way to brand yourself and your business.

Mastering the use of social media creates a seamless combination between your short-term and long-term business strategies. The best part of this is that social traffic strategy can work just as well for newbies as it does for established gurus. It’s fast, it’s easy, it’s targeted and it’s free! There’s no financial risks attached at all.

So go ahead and start building your social profiles now! Take full advantage of unlimited social traffic and get more buyers to your website. Start creating streams of free targeted traffic and boost your sales today!
