Many Backlinks are not Created Proportionately

Backlinks tips
Kuldeep Singh asked:

Ok, we all know backlinks are a huge part of determining your site worth to most search engines. Each backlink to your site is a vote for it. Backlinks are the building blocks of SEO itself. We’ll look into what should be on your mind as you are acquiring backlinks.

The first intuition is to see how many you can get. That’s just one piece of the whole backlink pie. Search engines like Google have been around time and have a lot of brilliant minds working for them. A higher quality backlink is worth more towards higher search engine rankings.

Some things to consider about backlinks:

1. Age affects all backlinks. Google specifically weighs a backlink more with age. Backlinks gain in weight over time until after around 6 months they reach their full weight. Basically, it means that the effort you do building backlinks will be worth more and more.

2. Anchor text is hugely important. The words on the backlink itself from the other site also play into it appears the other site views your site. When the keywords you are optimizing for are used, the link gains a much higher quality. The thing to watch out for here is that the text is varying. Google picks up on when all of you backlinks have the same exact text.

3. Getting backlinks from sites with the same theme as yours will benefit you much more than non-relevant sites. This makes sense since a link to your health food site from a car site about old Mustangs isn’t going to do much for a visitor, so it won’t for Google either.

4. The better the reputation or Page Rank of a site that links to you, the higher quality it is. Fairly obvious. If CNN or Slashdot linked to you, that one backlink would likely outweigh all your other backlinks together.

5. The physical location of a backlink on the page can also be a notable factor for search engines. Google in particular lends more weight to links the higher towards the top of the page. If there is surrounding content the links appear more natural so they are valued higher.

Reciprocal links are always the hot topic when talking SEO. The truth is, reciprocal links are still alive and going well. Reciprocal links between websites with similar themes is natural and expected. Though I have read many times of claims that reciprocal linking is dead, rest assured that quality reciprocal links are not going away anytime soon. Google for instance has its sights set on backlinks that were bought, and from link farms where 5 minutes after paying some money you have thousands of sites pointing to yours.

While there are many other factors such as the age of your website and how much content is on your website, those will be left to another article.

Backlinks are indeed the cornerstone of getting a website established on the Internet. Without enough backlinks visitors won’t know your site exists, and search engines will put little weight to your website resulting in a further loss of potential traffic, which could make or break your site. The key is to go out knowing what backlinks you want and spend enough time to make your site known. Properly setup, your backlinks will keep your site popular with visitors for a long time to come.

Do Backlink Generators Work?
April 12, 2009 at 10:56 am

Backlinks
Michael Porteous asked:

I imagine people who spend all of their time concentrating on their online business without promoting it are like shop owners who open a store where it is cheap and just expect people to walk past them and buy stuff! In the real world this does not work and online this does not work. When you launch your site that site is in the same place that they small business was … on a road to no where without some hard work. This is where backlinks come in and more controversially where backlink generators come in too.

For your site to be noticed by the big search engines like Google, yahoo and the like it must have backlinks; one way links from other sites. The more backlinks you have the more the search engines believe it is a site of note and will raise it on its search rankings. Most people with a bit of experience online find this out and move on to the next stage which is frantically trying to get backlinks but many people go about this like that same small business owner, he rolls his sleeves up and starts handing out flyers on the street. While this works it takes a lot of time a commodity he is already short on.

So now you can see where the backlink generators come in to it. A site that can generate backlinks for you is like hiring a small army of people to hand out those flyers for you while you can dedicate more of your time actually making your business better and the cost you pay to get those links working can be made up by the increased business you get.

So this all sounds good but is it as easy as all that? Does the investment pay off and just how good are those backlink generators? The answer lies in the quality of the generator you use, those that use shifty black hat tactics or link farms offer you nothing that search engines like Google will accept because they give low quality links. You need a backlink generator that guarantees high quality links for it to be worthwhile and then you can rest easy and get on with the business of making money!

SEO - 4 Best SEO Tips To Get To The Top On Google
April 12, 2009 at 8:31 am

Seo tips
Cheow Yu Yuan asked:

If you are a website owner, you will definitely want to get your website rank well in Google organic listings for keywords phrases that are most relevant to what you are offering. Getting your site to the first page of Google is not an impossible dream, as long as you choose the right keywords for your optimization plan.

Do not make the mistake of trying to optimize one-word phrase such as “flowers” or “golf”. There are 2 reasons why you should not do this. First, it is almost impossible for a new site to get into the first page of Google for these types of keyword phrases, as it is way too competitive.

Secondly, a good search engine optimization plan is to optimize keyword phrases that are more targeted. For example, “golf” is too general and the traffic that comes to your website may not be very eager to buy golf equipments from you. They may just be interested to find out more about golf. On the other hand, if you optimize keyword phrases like “discount golf clubs” or “used golf clubs” you stand a higher chance to convert your website visitors to customers.

Now let me share with you 4 best SEO tips to get to the top on Google:

1. Choose the right keywords. Again is back to what I have shared with you above. Choosing the right keywords for your optimization plan will determine whether you succeed in getting to the top on Google. Choose keyword wisely and make sure that they keywords you choose have substantial search volume to justify your effort.

2. Good onsite optimization. A good onsite optimization is the basic of all successful SEO case studies. You need to place keywords in areas such as the title tag, meta tags, header tags, alt tags and content. By getting a keyword targeted domain name such as “mygolfclubs”, you will score extra point with Google.

3. Good original content. Google dislikes non-original content and penalize duplicate content. If the content of your website is not original, no matter how much optimization you do to it, it will not rank high. It is definitely worth your effort to spend time developing quality and original content. Update your site with fresh content frequently and you will score another big point with Google.

4. Intensive linking campaign. Google takes into account the number of links pointing back to your website. With more links pointing back to your site, it shows that your site is important and popular. However, links pointing back to your website need to be relevant to what your site is providing. Relevancy plays a very important role if you want to achieve successful optimization. You can get links pointing back to your site by submitting your website to directories, and writing articles and distribute them to the various article directories online.

With good organic ranking on Google, you can be sure to see a surge of traffic to your website and hence more exposure of your business.

Why Link Consistency is Important to Your Pagerank
April 12, 2009 at 7:51 am

Pageranks
Hans Henrik Appel asked:

Let me ask you a simple question. What is your homepages address? Just tell me the URL to your homepage.

My guess is, that you just told me the domain name, as in www.bettergoogleposition.com.

Right? Of course! But take a second thinking about your website structure. You probably have a default page, like default.asp, index.html or something similar, which work as your homepage. For instance, on my website Toastforums.com, we have a default.asp file. Going to www.toastforums.com and www.toastforums.com/default.asp will bring you to the same page.

So - does it matter which one you use? As I will show you shortly - YES, it truly does matter, and you should think about this EVERY time you make a link to your frontpage.

Let's take a closer look at the two pages above - the domain name itself and the /default.asp page. It is of course the very same page - it's only the address in your browser that tells us the difference.

But take a look at the pagerank! (If you don't have the free Google Toolbar installed in your browser, I suggest you get it now, since I will assume in this article that you have the PageRank information displayed).

At the time this article was created, the pagerank looked like this:

http://www.toastforums.com/

Pagerank 6

http://www.toastforums.com/default.asp

Pagerank 4

As I said before: It is the excact same page! But the Pagerank differs by 2 points what so ever! What does this tell us?

Page Name Consistency is key!

Google will naturally take the two URLs as two separate pages - and calculate the Pagerank for each! And since some of my incoming links go directly to the domain name, I still have a lot of incoming links to the /default.asp page.

But isn't two well-ranked pages better than one?

As I am writing this, I am also working on changing all the incoming links to go to the root url. So far, this has earned me an extra point in Pagerank (went from 5 to 6 this week), and my best guess is that I will be at PR7 or PR8 within a few months from now.

But as I said earlier, I hope this has proven to you just how important it is to be CONSISTENT with your incoming links - and your internal links for that matter! It doesn't matter if you link to the root domain or the default.asp page - as long as you are consistent!

I will follow up on this article every time the Pagerank of our websites are updated. So don't forget to visit BetterGooglePosition.com.

Answer me one more time…

So… What is your homepage address? Take a few minutes to go back to your site and make sure that you are consistently linking the right way. You will not see the results instantly, but you should be able to see some improvement of Pagerank over time…

SEO Tips to Help You Get the Most Out of Your Marketing
April 12, 2009 at 5:07 am

Seo tips
MARK DERVN asked:

SEO can be an invaluable asset to the marketing of your website or business, as long as it is used properly. Seeking out helpful SEO tips can get you started. Although it seems like a simple process, there are actually a few complexities that you need to be aware of before you get started. Sure, you could just pop a few keywords into your website content or articles and call it SEO, but it doesn’t work that easily. In case you’re not already aware, SEO stands for search engine marketing, and is the process of using keywords and common search terms to create a website that has higher search engine rankings.

For more details go to: www.greatseosecrets.com when combined with other marketing methods, it can be very successful in driving traffic to your website. By itself, it can do a little, but not a lot, for your business.

Here are some SEO tips to help you get the most out of your marketing:

- Be the consumer. Think like a consumer would to determine which keywords will work best for your particular website or business.

- Research. There are sites that have keyword generators, lists of popular searches related to your topic, and even articles about how to best use SEO (like this one) that can help you in your website marketing needs.

- Use what works. Even if it sounds dumb, use the phrase that’s getting the most use. For example, trying to work “insurance quotes houston” into a coherent article can make the article seem incoherent. However, having that keyword phrase in there could make or break your rankings, so do your best to make it work.

- Too much is BAD. Most search engines will limit you to a density, or use, of 1%-2%. In a 400 word article, that’s 4-8 mentions of the keyword or phrase.

For can visit to: www.thesearchengineprimer.com any more can get you reprimanded, or in most cases, banned from search engines. Then your business won’t get any traffic at all.

No matter how much (or how little) you know about SEO, you should always feel free to ask for assistance. There are people who are specifically trained in the art of search engine optimization and can help your website succeed with little effort by giving you valuable SEO tips. Sure, this might cost you a little money, but it will pay off in the end when your site has better rankings and traffic because of it.

One thing is certain: you can never invest too much into the marketing of your business. After all, without proper marketing, people will never know your site exists, and your business will fail quickly.

New Trends In Traffic Generation
April 12, 2009 at 4:05 am

Traffic
Jean-Philippe Schoeffel asked:

Worried about the next Google slap? Do you only rely on Search Engine traffic? Don’t know where to start when you need to drive traffic to your site? If yes, this article is for YOU! Whatever you do on the net, you will always deal with Traffic Generation…the holly grail.

To make it short, you have 2 main types of traffic :

1) Search Engine traffic

What is it? : organic traffic coming from search engines such as Google, Yahoo, MSN

Pros :

- This traffic is free

- Traffic is highly targeted

- Volume of traffic can be very high

Cons :

- you don’t control it

- you rely on robots to analyze your site and deliver some traffic

- you need to get indexed…without being de-indexed (once again, you rely on search engines policy and algorithms)

- short term

2) Referred Traffic (I know Search engine traffic is also a sort of referred traffic, but let’s put SE traffic apart from this category)

What is it? Traffic coming from third party sites (other than search engines) and is a result of a “manual / human” action.

Examples : article directories, social bookmarking services, forums, partners, text link ads, banners, directories, rss…

Pro :

- you control it

- you have a lot of means to develop it (almost unlimited ; a lot are free)

- it’s highly targeted

- You can pay to get better targeting and control over your referred traffic

- Long term

Cons :

- Time & resources consuming

- Repetitive tasks

Now, through my membership, my forum, my readings of other forums, I know that most webmasters mainly rely on search engines traffic, our first category.

The aim of the present article is to throw the light on a different angle of the Traffic Generation big box!

Summary : the right way to get into traffic generation is to forget about search engines.

Focusing on search engine traffic gives a too narrow vision of traffic generation. It does not reveal all the opportunities existing outside of the search engines (understand all the way to generate Referred Traffic).

In addition, as you’ve seen from the cons above, you accept to rely on something you never control, and this is a HUGE risk in your marketing strategy.

Warning : I do not say, you should not care about search engine traffic. I say that it should not be your priority, and the first door you try to open when dealing with traffic generation. It’s a question of point of view.

Now, on the other hand, focusing on developing what we called Referred Traffic is a more positive, constructive and profitable attitude and marketing strategy.

Not only will you build traffic for the long term, but you will also “manually” control your traffic, either by submitting your content, your sites, your feeds, or by exchanging links, content, traffic with partners, being active on forums, blogs…

Doing it this way will give you a lot of power and effectiveness. Those sources of Referred Traffic only vanish…if you decide to let them vanish. Once again, you control everything.

Now, you have some positive side effects :

- By building Referred Traffic, you give a lot of food to search engines to index your site, understand them, and rank them well…

- …thus developing naturally your Search Engine Traffic!

Try to develop Referred Traffic by submitting your sitemap to Google, and you will understand the difference between the 2 approaches :-)

Google and other search engines tend to change their algorithms quite often to produce more relevant content for users of their engines. Sometimes, your site is getting de-indexed in a day just because of this.

Are you lost, is your site dead? It could if you only relied on Search Engine traffic. It has no impact if you focused on building Referred Traffic.

In one case, you feel bad and like if you had wasted your time. In the other case, you don’t even notice it (on the long run ; of course, you can see a fall in traffic coming from a given search engine)

But even then, your site has a lot of chances of being re-indexed when you’ve build Referred Traffic, simply because the search engines food is still there! And this is a HUGE difference and one of the most valuable asset you can develop.

If you’re still with me, you should now understand my point : when dealing with bots, you need to act as a human…which means you should not try to talk to them :-) Give them some “bot food” that you build naturally by developing a Referred Traffic Generation Strategy.

Here are 10 easy “pieces” to do what we described above :

Once you have a site…

1) Find some related blogs, read them, identify trends, and post comments (no stupid comments, no spam of course) with a link back to your site where you’re also discussing the topic

2) Do the same with related forums. Use search engines (!) to find relevant forums. Register and start being active on these forums. Use your signature to put a link back to your site

3) Create a blog (if you don’t have one) and post on a regular basis on it. Use a service like feedburner to syndicate your content with other webmasters.

4) Submit your feeds, blogs, and site to niche directories

5) Find “authority” sites in your niche, analyze them and contact the webmasters to :

a) propose a link exchange (you should first put a link to their site),

b) if you’re selling a report or an ebook, propose them to become an affiliate (give them a fre.e copy of your ebook first), and make it easy for them to manage their promotion

c) if they have a newsletter, read it, understand it, and then ask the webmaster if you can have a sponsored ad into it, or even better a solo ad where you could advertise your site, newsletter, ebook…

d) propose content exchange with link back to each other’s website

e) build a relation with them

6) The most effective : write articles and submit them to article directories (some with big traffic, and some niche related ones)

7) Social bookmarking and social networking :

a) build a Squidoo lens (see Squidoo Profits for more details: http://www.squidoo-profits.com). You can find many sites like Squidoo and build pages about your niche on these ones too. You can link them to your main niche sites, you can link back to your blogs, or even to your other “squidoo” like pages, thus creating a “niche social net” all relevant to your niche.

b) build a myspace account and create a profile around your niche, then build your “list” of friends around this profile

c) submit your site to social bookmarking services (digg, technorati, del.icio.us …)

d) You can also comment on the most popular entries with a link back to your site, blog, or squidoo lens.

8) Use videos and sites like youtube.com (and similar) to drive traffic to your niche site. Produce a short video (2-3 minutes) around your site, your niche and you. Link to your Videos from your “niche social net” (see 7) ) Also, ask webmasters to put a link to this video (once you have build a relation with them) - Or they can upload it to their server and brand it with their affiliate ID, if you have an affiliate program

9) Make it viral : your best source of (new) traffic…is your (current) traffic!

Use some “Tell a friend” features on your site to have them promote your site. You can provide incentives (such as a free report, a coupon for your ebook…)

10) Paid Traffic : yes…all the above techniques do not cost a penny…(unless you pay for advertising on a partner’s site)

You can pay to get targeted traffic : you can advertise through text link ads, banners, that will appear on high traffic sites.

You should seriously consider paid traffic. Do not see it as a cost, but rather as an initial investment to boost your site. Also, if your site is correctly monetized, then paid traffic is the easiest way to get some quick metrics about this, and to make it profitable quickly.

As you see we could easily expand this list. But, those are, in my opinion, the most important sources of Referred Traffic.

Now, compare the above list with Search Engine traffic, and you will see why your approach should focus on generating Referred Traffic and not Search Engine Traffic. This type of traffic will come naturally anyway…

Boost Adsense Income With Keyword Research Tips
April 12, 2009 at 3:40 am

Pagerank tips
Davion W asked:

Adsense experts boost adsense income with effective keyword research. It is not far-fetched to say that keyword research should be an integral part of the overall strategy for anyone hoping to build a steady income using Adsense. Here are some powerful keyword research tips to boost adsense income:

Boost Adsense Income Tip 1 – Use Keyword Tools

There are many keywords tools both free and paid to research for profitable keywords. Frankly, people have managed with free tools, but it takes much longer and is more tedious. However, for a beginner, it is a great way to get dirty with keyword research. The most popular free online keyword research tools like:

1. Google Adwords Keyword Research Tool

Go to https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

2. Overture Keyword Tool

Go to http://inventory.overture.com

3. WordTracker

Go to http://www.wordtracker.com/free-trial.html (Free Trial)

4. NicheBot

NicheBot and WordTracker have paid versions too which are more powerful and reveals a lot more about the keywords you are researching. Another free windows-based tool which I personally love is GoodKeywords. If you are looking for most robust tools, try KeywordElite or even SEOElite.

Boost Adsense Income Tip 2 – Compile a Master Keyword List

Target 5 to 10 keywords for your Adsense website to optimize for. Do a quick check with the Overture Keyword Tool. Run the main keyword relevant to your website and find at least 5 secondary keywords that have more than 1000 searches every month.

Boost Adsense Income Tip 3 – Optimize for Long-Tail Keywords

Optimizing your website for long-tail keywords can boost adsense income by a great measure. Avoid extremely competitive keywords like 'make money', 'internet marketing' or 'credit repair'. Go for long-tail keywords like 'make money for retirees', 'internet marketing for beginners' or 'credit repair tips'. Aim for keywords with less than 2 million search results and less than 3000 searches when in quotes. These are keywords that are not as competitive but yet have a moderate demand. Your website would be able to score well in the search engines, and optimization would be much easier.

Boost Adsense Income Tip 4 – Steal from Competitors

This is quite blackhat but is an extremely powerful secret used to bypass hours of research.

a. Type in your main keywords in the Google search engine.

b. Copy down the URL of the top 10 search results at Google.

c. Visit the No.1 site and go to your internet browser, under the 'View' feature, click on 'Page Source'. Copy the keywords in the keyword meta-tags and paste onto a notepad file.

d. Repeat this for all the websites.

Essentially, in website architecture, the meta-tags are critical for your overall SEO. Webmasters, especially the top experts would stuff the meta-tags with keywords they are optimizing for. They should have done enough in-depth keyword research to rank well in the search engines. These keywords should be worth gold to you.

Boost Adsense Income Tip 5 – Litmus Test Your Target Keywords

This is a quick gunshot method to know what kind of competition are you up against. The following webpage allows you to browse the Google PageRank of the top 10 websites displayed in Google.

http://www.SEOChat.com/seo-tools/pagerank-search

If the first 5 web pages have a PageRank of 5 and above, this particular keyword could be tough to achieve a good ranking.

Top 10 Link Building Tips
April 11, 2009 at 9:24 pm

Pagerank tips
Sandy Lee asked:

In order to achieve any degree of Internet success, you need to make the search engines aware of your website’s presence. One of the best ways to do this is through a process known as ‘link building’. Link building is a means of generating inbound traffic to your website by getting other websites to link to yours. In turn, the search engines will register the presence of your site more readily and you will achieve higher ranking. What are the best ways to achieve this?

The first way is to create content that other websites will want to link to; content that is of quality and interest, which other sites will wish to be associated with. Popular types of content include ‘How to’ articles, and ‘Top 10′ lists.

Press releases and ‘breaking business news’ campaigns are another good way of drawing interest. This system works on two levels: firstly, releasing news about what your business is up to can raise its profile anyway and, secondly, you can continue the link building process through press release syndication. There are many sites that offer this service and it is an effective method of link building.

Adding an industry news section to your site not only draws people in, but it also elevates your profile as a source of credible and up-to-date information within your field.

Ezine articles have been shown to generate quality traffic to websites. By posting a well-researched and informative article here, it shows that you are well informed and your article will be syndicated into Ezine’s database of thousands of articles. As Ezine ranks very highly, those looking for articles about your industry are likely to stop here and search its archives.

DMOZ is a website directory. Its data can be freely downloaded by a website of any size and used. However, when it comes to link building, it helps to know that one of the sites that downloads and uses DMOZ is Google. Whilst it can be hard to do, getting a listing in DMOZ is a great way to achieve links.

It is also worth researching other free websites, blogs and directories. If you can find any of these with a Google PageRank of 4 or higher, then submit your website to them. Take a look at sites such as Squidoo and Yahoo Answers.

Using friends and contacts can reap dividends when it comes to link building. If you are on good terms with another business, link to them. You are then in a position to ask them to do the same for you.

Social Tagging is the process of reading articles and ‘digging’ or ‘tagging’ them. Find articles on sites such as Delicious and Technorati and if you like them, tag them - people just might do the same for you.

Getting your website listed on local government websites and local business websites gathers credibility on your behalf and offers an easy resource for potential traffic.

A blog is an essential part of link building; adding one to your website is a must. Not only are blogs a great way of generating industry-related content, you are also in a position to review, link to and comment on other business blog entries and articles. Again, this is part of the ‘you scratch my back’ tactic, but the hope is that other businesses will link to you.

Top 5 Strategies and Tactics That an SEO Company Does
April 11, 2009 at 7:20 pm

Seo
Wendy Ang asked:

SEO… Know anything about it? Well for one, SEO is considered to be among the newest of the many forms of Internet Marketing. And, it’s also considered to be among the most popular trends in internet marketing. But why is it that SEO still frightens a lot of us? Although SEO is one of the most popular, many of us still considers “It” as among the most complicated strategy for internet marketing.

But you know, despite the techno-R2-D2 dialect things that the dudes from an SEO department throws at you such as SEMs, Page Ranks, Keyword stuffing or density, Algorithms, SERPs, Alt Tags, Anchor Texts, Inbound or Outbound Links… SEO is as simple as it gets. It’s as simple as it’s called - Search Engine Optimization, and all you have to do is to optimize the website for search engines to find it easily. The only thing about it is that it involves a lot of work. But if you look at it on a different point of view, it’s quite enjoyable.

But what does SEO do actually? Search Engine Optimization is getting your content listed in all the top positions in major search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN for your targeted keywords. When someone does a keyword search in a search engine for your particular subject or niche - you’ll naturally want your site or content to be at the top of the líst. That is what SEO does for your website. Keeping the traffic in and letting it do that for as long as the website stands. Now, isn’t that a good thing?

To let you know what SEO companies do on an SEO campaign, let me give you the top 5 techniques and tactics that the dudes from an SEO Company usually do on their campaigns.

Keyword Research

Knowing your keyword is very important to achieve the highest rank in search engines. SEO Companies usually use software tools such as Wordtracker and Seobook to research for their keywords. These tools give them a rudimentary number of searches. Relevance is also very important in keyword researching. The design of a website must be relevant to its keyword. Another thing that SEO Companies do is doing some deep-linking to these pages on their sites. SEO companies usually find and build backlinks to these interior keyword pages and not just to their home page or domain URL. Picking keywords with medium to low competition is something to consider as well. This way, it’ll be a lot easier to achieve higher rank.

On-Page SEO

On-page optimization and web design factors play a very major role in SEO campaigns. These are the first things that search engines look for in a website. It’s important for an SEO company to make sure that their website is as SEO friendly as it can. Also, SEO companies make sure that all of their pages are easily reachable from their homepages. This is easily done by a strategy called navigation bars or menus. Navigation bars lead to other webpage in a website.

Sitemaps also play significant roles in SEO. SEO companies generate XML sitemaps and upload them to their website. This technique makes the search engines very happy, because this makes it a lot easier for search engines to crawl your website through that.

SEO companies prioritize website’s title and description as well. The title and description should contain some of their selected keywords. Dudes from an SEO Company also make sure that they use them to draw and attract interested visitors to their site and content, and not just the search engine. They also make sure that their title and URL contain keyword relevance for maximum effect. Having some of their major keywords in a domain name also makes this a lot easier for search engines to visit their website.

Link Building

There are many strategies and tactics developed within the SEO, and Link Building is still the most popular and most effective way of boosting a website’s rank on any search engine. Backlinks from relevant sites are as important as the keywords themselves. An SEO company makes it their top priority to make sure that the ‘anchor text’ is related to their keywords, while making sure that the text and overall quality of the content linking to their site is relevant. These guys make sure that they link out to high quality, high ranked relevant sites in their niche.

Only the latest SEO strategies and tactics can be served by SEO Philippines. Visit SEO Philippines at www.myoptimind.com.

Article Marketing

Article marketing, though not as effective as link building, is still a well-established way of getting some quality backlinks or inbound links. Doing a 500-800-word article with backlinks included within the article itself or on the resource box is still an effective method to receive a lot of traffic. Longer, more informative articles also work for many SEO companies. This is by using intensive network of press releases and distribution in article submission sites like SubmitYourArticle, Isnare, Thephantomwriters, and other major online press release sites. While doing all that, SEO companies still make sure that they’re also talking to users, users whom might become their clients. So these guys make use of their imaginative juices to make their article SEO-friendly and reader-friendly.

Blogging and Social Media

Search engines are inlove with Blogs. Blogs are the most favorite spot that search engines visit. Newly updated entries, articles, live comments, and chain of communities, these blogs are what’s making SEO more and more fun. SEO companies usually use WordPress blog software for their blogging purposes. Most of these guys use WordPress because it’s extremely effective for SEO purposes. WordPress software is easier to install on a website even if they do not have any knowledge in installing server-side scripts. Other SEO Companies also use Blogger (owned by Google), Bloglines and other free blog hosts to help distribute content. Search engines love these highly SEO friendly blogs with their well structured content and keyword tagging.

Social bookmarking is becoming very important on the web. Social media sites such as Friendster, MySpace, FaceBook, Twitter and media news such as Digg, SlashDot, Technorati are now among the targeted media that SEO companies use. SEO campaigns include joining these sites and using them to their advantage. Though very time consuming, SEO companies are still using this strategy because of its great benefits and conversion.

But apart from those things I said earlier, planning is still the heart of an SEO campaign. Planning is the foremost important part of an SEO campaign. In our every undertaking, planning is the least element that we would want to forget. Planning and strategizing is very important in every SEO campaign. Understanding what SEO strategy to use is integral. This way, we wouldn’t run into some major problems where we would have to resort to resetting our efforts and start again from scratch. Now, that would be very costly and time consuming.

But first, you should take into mind that SEO is not complicated. A lot of work yes, but not complicated. As I had said, with a right point of view, SEO efforts are very enjoyable, especially when it comes to blogging, article writing, link partnership, and social media efforts. When used effectively, SEO can give you the targeted traffíc you’re seeking. Just do what we do and you’re on your way to success.

Keyword Selection and Website Optimization
April 11, 2009 at 5:41 pm

Keywords
Chris Haney asked:

Marketing and optimizing a website for search engines is a broad topic. There are many factors to consider when heading out with the goal of improving your website’s visibility and ranking within various search engines. In part one I will discuss the highly requested topic of website keywords. In follow-up articles I will cover additional topics such as page ranking, pay-per-click advertising campaigns, the marketing techniques to avoid, and the latest analysis technologies including eye tracking software.

Choosing the right keywords for a website is an important and informative research task. In the process of improving your website you’ll learn a lot about your industry and your competitors.

Keywords are one the main factors that come into play in the algorithms used by major search engines like Google, Yahoo, and Windows Live Search. If a web surfer is looking for home decorating tips and types 'home decorating’ into a search engine, it will search its database for websites that contain that phrase and those individual words.

Selecting the correct keywords

If you are an expert in your field, you know what your customers are looking for. Specifically, you know many of the words and phrases your customers would use to describe your products and services. Start with what you know.

Write out a list of phrases and words that describe your business. If you have a home decorating business you may think of words like 'interior design’ and 'furnishings’. Sort your list so that the most common phrases are on the top of your list.

You will now want to cross-reference the list of keywords that you have compiled with other lists generated for your industry. This will bring to mind other keywords that you may not have thought of. I recommend using a popular web-based keyword research tool named Wordtracker (http://www.wordtracker.com). Wordtracker helps identify additional keywords and phrases and offers a free trial of their service. It provides only a limited number of related words, but is still a great starting point. Searching for related keywords for 'home decorating’ with Wordtracker produces a list of keywords like ‘home’, ‘decor’, ‘decorating’, ‘home decor’, ‘furniture’, ‘design’, ‘interior’, ‘interior decorating’, ‘art’, ‘wall’, and ‘fabric’.

Other keyword tools, which produce similar results, are also available. These include, among others, the web-based tools provided by Yahoo (Overture) (http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/), and Google (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal).

After compiling and merging the various lists of keywords, you’ll be ready to move on to the next step.

Using the correct keywords on your website

Now that you have a clear picture of which keywords web surfers may type into their search engine to find your business, you need to be sure your website contains these important keywords.

A strategy is required when updating your website to include the keywords in your list. Starting at the top of your list, quickly review the keywords. Think about which keywords would naturally be present on your website and which keywords you probably wouldn’t use. Using the first list of keywords, you may now start reviewing the different sections of your website.

Your selected keywords should be placed in various areas of your site with the proper frequency. Your website content should focus on making sense to your visitors, not fed with keywords that will hopefully improve your search positioning. Search engine algorithms can detect the over use of keywords, which can negatively affect your positioning. Let’s now look at different areas of your website.

Website Title

Every website has a title. This is not a website logo or a bold heading found on the top section of a website. The website title is displayed in the web browser’s title bar. This is the top most area of the window located to the far left of the window’s minimize, maximize, and close buttons. The website title is also the text that is displayed in search engine search results, which is often in a larger font and underlined. The website title is the first thing that a web surfer sees when performing a search. Web surfers quickly scan through search result website titles to evaluate which website will meet their needs. This is your first opportunity to grab their attention.

A website title should contain as many of your keywords as possible, while maintaining easy readability. This will do two things for you. First, the search engine will find your website in its database and display your website in their results. Second, the website title will catch the surfer’s interest as they see their search criteria matching your website title. Over-stuffing the title with keywords makes the title difficult to read and may be seen as abuse by search engines. The website title is updated by changing the text located between the opening and closing title tags, in the header of the HTML code. The title length should be kept to handful of words. The website description allows more space for describing your products and services.

Website Description

As with the website title, the website description should also contain a variety of keywords. Unlike the website title, the website description is not visible on any part of the website itself. The description is the summary information you see in search engines results, displayed below the website title. The website description gives you a little more space to describe your website and your products and services. Again, be sure that your description is easily readable for your visitors, in order to attract them to click your site title. The website description can be updated by changing the text in the description meta tag, in the header of the HTML code.

Website Keywords

Along with the title and description entries in the HTML code, there is also an area to define a set of keywords that you’d like to associate to the page. This is called the keyword meta tag. Keywords are entered as a comma separated list. The industry consensus is that the keyword meta tag is currently of little or no use with today’s major search engines. However, search engines continue to recommend their usage.

Website Content

This brings us to the meat of our website, so to speak. Our chosen keywords should be used throughout the website content where it makes sense. Again, over-stuffing page content with keywords so that the message is unnatural can be detected by search engines. A good practice is to use the keywords to make the page content more descriptive. For example, a pet store may sell a variety of pet foods. This can be written in a descriptive manner, such as, 'dog food and cat food’, instead of using 'dog and cat food’. In this example the keyword 'food’ is used twice.

Headings and Hyperlinks

Special attention should be given to the usage of heading tags and anchor tags. Keyword usage in page heading is more valuable than keywords used in a paragraph of text. The same can be said with anchor tags (a.k.a. hyperlinks). Using keywords as the clickable text of a hyperlink is very valuable.

Keyword Density

Keyword density refers to the percentage of occurrences of your keywords compared to the other text on the web page. Keyword density tools such as Webconfs.com’s Keyword Density Checker (http://webconfs.com/keyword-density-checker.php) provides a visualization of the main theme or message on a chosen page. This tool counts the number of times each word is repeated on the page, which is a good test of how you’ve done at inserting keywords to optimize the content. It is also a good representation of how search engines will see your page. 'More is better’ is not the most effective keyword density goal. Although the optimum keyword density is much debated, having some balance is definitely in order. A density below 1% makes it difficult for a search engine to understand your main message, where a density over 5% will start to make the content appear unnatural. At this stage in website optimization, the page content can be continually edited while the keyword density is being re-checked. Continue this process until your keywords are among the words with the highest density.

Conclusion

Choosing the correct keywords for your website is a must. Website keyword optimization is not rocket science, but it must be implemented carefully. By using the correct keywords, not only will your site be positioned well in search results, but it will draw visitors to your website.

Is Pagerank Decay a Hamster Wheel for Webmasters?
April 11, 2009 at 5:33 pm

Pageranks
Andrew Jamaz asked:

Pagerank jiggle seemed to indicate that something interesting was happening. Could Google be using its Pagerank system to prevent low-quality sites getting free traffic?

Several of my own observations indicated that low-value Pagerank links may decay over time.

One webmaster reported a jump from Pagerank zero to Pagerank five, purely from a recent link-building campaign. During his link building efforts, he got a few links from a Pagerank 6 blog, and he expected those links “to fade as new posts come out”.

The way that blogs work is that new posts appear on the homepage which is usually the highest ranked page on the blog. Over time, those blog posts move off the homepage and into the archives, where they usually have less Pagerank.

What if the whole web worked in the same way? If new links were counted “in full”, but over time the Pagerank of the links “faded”?

If that were the case, a site that was receiving lots of traffic, but which stopped getting links would eventually lose its traffic. That’s what I experienced with one of my own websites which was chugging along at 2,000 visitors per day. After the PageRank jiggle, the traffic dropped.

Another indication of Pagerank decay came from an SEO expert who wrote that “You need fresh links today, and in the future”.

Are you starting to see a pattern? Pagerank from older blog posts fades, a site that didn’t get any recent links experienced falling traffic, and an SEO expert saying you need continual fresh links.

Here’s my Pagerank Decay theory…

1: Google loves quality sites.

2: Quality sites get links naturally over time.

3: Low value links decay over time.

“PageRank Decay” would benefit Google, because if a site only gets low-quality links, and the PageRank of those links decays over time, the webmaster either has to continually build more links, or give up.

Webmasters who try to manipulate Google will most likely be getting low-quality links. If they spend time building links, they’ll get traffic, but only for a while unless other sites start linking to them naturally. If they don’t get any new links for a while, their traffic will fall.

On the other hand, if a webmaster builds a quality website that other webmasters choose to link to, the site will maintain, or even improve, its search engine rankings naturally.

It’s possible that Google only applies Pagerank decay to low-value Pagerank links. Presumably, the age of a link from a top-quality website wouldn’t affect its value. Anyone who had a site good enough to get a link from a Pagerank 8 or higher website wouldn’t see the value of that link dwindle to nothing in over time. Sites with PageRank 8 or higher would thereby form a “backbone” of quality, trusted sites from which PageRank would flow to lesser sites.

The bottom line is that, if you accept PageRank Decay exists then anyone who works really hard to build “low value” links into their sites will have to keep working hard just to maintain their traffic.

PageRank Decay is like a hamster wheel for webmasters who build sites that don’t get natural links.

Ok. I'Ve Got My Keywords. Now What?
April 11, 2009 at 4:45 pm

Keyword tips
Mike Seddon asked:

Okay, so you have found your keywords. Now what?

Well, you need to know where to put them!

Here is a list of the best places to use your keywords on your web pages to give you that much need SEO boost.

Title tag

This is an extremely important tag and it certainly should include your keywords. I’ve lost count of how many home pages I have seen with the Title of “home page”.

The title is also what appears when your page is listed by the search engines and so it needs to be compelling to the human eye as well as include your keywords for the search engines.

Ideally the title should be no more than 100 characters including spaces. Google displays unto 66 characters, Yahoo much more.

Also, get your main keyword in early in the title text. For example, on a web page aimed at offering web optimising advice to small businesses and the keyword for the page is “web optimising” I might use the following Title:

Web Optimising for Small Businesses

Alternatively if my keyword for the page is “small businesses” I might switch the Title to be:

Small Business Web Optimising

Description Tag

Some search engines check the description tag to get a good understanding of what the web page is about. So you must include your keywords in this tag. It’s important to remember that your description tag is frequently the test displayed when your web page is listed by the search engines. So again it needs to be compelling for your potential visitors.

Headings

The heading tags (ie: h1, h2, etc) are considered of importance by the search engines and therefore you should include your keywords in these headings whenever you can. You should certainly make sure the main heading of the page (ie: the H1 tag) contains your keyword.

Content

The main copy of your web page should also use your keywords. However it is important to remember that the copy is there to convert your customer to do something once they have arrived at the web page. If the copy does not guide them to taking the action you want them to take then getting your customer to the page has all been for nothing. So, write the page with the purpose in mind and try to work the keywords in naturally into the content.

Incidentally some pundits state that you should include your keywords near the top of the page as this effects the rating the search engines apply to your page. I'm not sure if that is true, however if I were a visitor to your site that found you through keywords on a search engine I would find it welcoming to find those keywords early in my reading of your page.

Links

Use your keywords in any links to your page from within your own web site and ideally where you can on links from external web sites. Search engines following these links will pick up on these keywords as being relevant to your page.

Alt tag

On all your images, use the alt tag and include your keywords in the text. Obviously the text needs to be relevant to the image. Using the alt tag is important for addressing web site accessibility which is now a legal requirement in many countries. Also, search engines read this text and use it for indexing your site.

Follow the guidelines in this article on how to use keywords to optimise your web site and I'm sure you will soon see increased traffic to your site.

How To Get Free High PR One-Way Backlinks To Your Website Using Articles
April 11, 2009 at 2:20 pm

Backlinks
Cory Threlfall asked:

We all know it, the more HIGH Quality links you have pointing to your website, the higher the search engines will rank your website. The questions is…”How can you get them without having to spend all that time doing traditional ‘Link Exchanges’ between webmasters, and more importantly, how can you get those high PR ‘One-Way’ Backlinks?”

Those are good questions indeed and I’ll explain them in a moment.

But, before I do, let’s first define what a “One-Way Backlink” is.

A “One-Way Backlink” is simply a link that points back to your website from someone else’s without you having to reciprocate back.

It doesn’t have to get anymore difficult than that.

The more pointing back to yours, the higher the search engines will rank your website depending on your keyword competition and the quality or PR(Popularity Ranking) of the backlink.

These are very important factors to consider when doing link exchanges because you want the best links possible.

I know I do, and I’m sure you do to.

If your new to the Internet Marketing scene then what I’m about to reveal to you within this article will literally save you tons of time and get you those much needed “One-Way Backlinks” so you can have a fighting chance for the keywords your website is optimized for.

So… what’s the BIG Secret?

ARTICLES!!

Why ‘Articles’ you ask and how do they get you “One-Way Backlinks”?

Well, first off, if you’ve been online for any length of time then you know that ‘Content Is King’, but the beauty of writing and syndicating articles is you get to include a ‘Resource Box’ with your articles that has all your website details in it along with your “URL”.

It’s that easy and if your good at writing articles and write them often and they target a specific niche that needs to be filled then they should have no problem getting picked up and spread around the Internet with all your website details and URL attached.

And… just so you know, articles are also considered one of the Best forms of VIRAL Marketing available on the Internet, so this should give you some incentive to get started as well.

Well, that covers the first question. Lets now move onto the last which is… “How do you get those high PR ‘One-Way’ Backlinks?”

Two words… “Article Directories”.

Article Directories are hungry for content and are always looking for fresh NEW content to add to their databases for their readers, webmasters and for newsletter and e-Zine publishers.

The great benefit to submitting to “Article Directories” is that they usually have high PR(between 4 and 6) within the search engines depending on if its new or not and is where you’ll benefit.

And that’s not all either. Everytime you submit a new article to an article directory it creates a NEW Optimized Page just for your article with all your website details and URL(MOST Important), so the more article directories you submit to, the bigger your network will grow with more “One-Way Backlinks” pointing back to your website from other high PR article directories.

And as those article directories are getting spidered daily by other search engine robots(known as Spiders) your new pages will get pick up and indexed within their databases as well building your link network BIGGER and Bigger.

If you see ANY potential in using this linking strategy then don’t sit on the fence.

Get started today.
